Local history teacher and author Peter Vermilyea will speak about his new book, "Litchfield County and the Revolutionary War." Litchfield resident Oliver Wolcott Sr. was a Revolutionary War patriot, signer of the Declaration of Independence, and Brigadier General of the Connecticut militia. Wolcott also oversaw the transportation from New York City to Litchfield of a toppled statue of King George III, which was melted down and turned into more than forty thousand musket balls. "Litchfield County and the Revolutionary War" reveals how liberty, sacrifice, and resilience in a corner of New England helped shape the destiny of a new nation.
