Curated by distinguished writer Lucy Sante, Larry Fink:
Sensual Empathy, celebrates Fink’s remarkable instinct for
capturing the spirit of a given social moment. He famously
pointed his lens on all levels of society, from New York and
Hollywood gala revelers to the at-home partying of working
class, rural Americans; from civil rights demonstrations to
1960s jazz giants. As Fink once noted, his characteristic
black-and-white photographs of America’s elite and working
class were “political, not polemical.” This exhibition is organized in partnership with the MUUS Collection.
Larry Fink’s “Sensual Empathy” at CPW spans six decades of poetic, flash-lit photography, capturing society’s glamour, grit, and humanity with unflinching intimacy and wit.
