The Camera Obscura Project

Pictorial Foundation will create a large-scale camera obscura transforming an intermodal shipping container into an immersive photographic environment. This installation will allow students, artists, and community members to physically step inside and directly experience optical principles forming the foundation of photography. When images are created and consumed at extraordinary speed through digital technologies, opportunities to understand origins of image making become increasingly rare. Camera Obscura offers a powerful connection to fundamental relationships between light, observation, and image formation. An accompanying art space exhibition of pinhole photography and cameras will complement the installation.
