Sao Tanaka: Counter-Sublime opens November 14 at One Mile Gallery. Presented in Kingston, a historic center of Hudson River School landscape painting, the exhibition reimagines landscape not as spectacle or territory, but as a space of elemental presence, myth, and transformation. Drawing from traditional Japanese painting techniques, contemporary abstraction, creation myths, and Eastern philosophical traditions, Tanaka creates imagined terrains without fixed geography or singular perspective. Atmospheric washes and layered surfaces evoke water, stone, light, and air in continual states of becoming. Counter-Sublime offers a quiet, immersive alternative to the monumental tradition of the American sublime. Through December 12
