Handel’s dramatic opera “Giulio Cesare (Julius Ceasar)” AKA “Giulio Cesare in Egitto (Julius Ceasar in Egypt”) premiered in 1724 and is loosely based on events that occurred during the Roman Civil War of 49-45 BC. Here, the baroque work gets a modern revisitation under the supervision of Hudson resident and critically acclaimed opera director R.B. Schlather, with live music performed by early music ensemble Ruckus (pictured), a unit dubbed “the world’s only period instrument rock band." An incredibly fitting lineup for New York's oldest surviving theater. Schlather is no stranger to Hudson Hall; his performance of Handel’s "Rodelinda" was a New York Times critic pick for 2023, and though he has performed at some of the most famous venues around the world, his main studio is at Foreland Catskill.
