Another element of Melanie’s work is that she upcycles her framing. Some frames are from our very own Town of New Paltz ReUse Center! While it's unusual to see artwork displayed in second-hand frames, there is a beauty to her using a frame which is not new, but has a life to it, merging with her captures of nature or distant lands, or double exposures created over years and by happenstance. She also makes her own clothes, travels by bike, and has an intriguing timelessness about her. Her work feels like an antidote, a needed pause, to our AI-driven, consumption-driven world.
