CLOSE ENCOUNTERS WITH MUSIC: “ON THE WINGS OF SONG”—SCHUMANN’S DICHTERLIEBE AND MENDELSSOHN PIANO TRIO

Love, but not the easy version. Schumann’s Dichterliebe, set to Heine’s poetry, follows a relationship as it slips, fractures, and refuses to resolve—sung by baritone Tyler Duncan (Met, Bard). Then everything shifts. Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio in D minor comes in with urgency and drive, less comfort than propulsion.
