Barbara Gordon Paintings: Active Engagement-Testing Boundaries

In this recent work, the painted surface creates an illusion of a third dimension through the use of color, tone, and light and dark, while the wood fragments in fact exist in three dimensions. The juxtaposition of the actual and the illusionistic forces the mind into an active dialogue, which explores the relationship between the objective and the mental, between the outside world and the mind that apprehends it.
