A violist from Kabul, Afghanistan and an author of the memoir "Playing for Freedom,” Zarifa Adiba is one of the first two female conductors in Afghanistan and has conducted the Zohra Orchestra, Afghanistan's first and only all-female orchestra.
In this special author talk, Zarifa will speak about her experience of growing up in Afghanistan, finding opportunities to nurture her love of music in a culture that sees it as "sinful," and her work as an activist for girls and education before sharing a recording of new music with the audience.
This event is free and open to the public.
