What if everyone spoke Mohican? How Do You Say Bagel in Mohican? (2023) explores efforts to revitalize the Mahican language and the deep connection between language and identity. The evening opens with Resonance of Words, a short reel by Poughkeepsie artist Jan Müller, and closes with a discussion featuring Müller and Brock Schreiber, a participant in the film. Schreiber, who lives in Wisconsin, belongs to the Mahican, or Mohican, nation, the People of the Waters that are Never Still, originally based in the upper Hudson Valley. Sponsored by seven academic departments and programs. Free and open to the public.
