Join Joyce Polance for an artist talk on The Patient Looks Back: Portraits of My Therapist, her solo exhibition at Vassar College’s Palmer Gallery. Polance will discuss the three-year series, painted from photographs taken during monthly in-person therapy sessions, and the reversal of therapy’s usual direction of attention. Working in oil with her fingers, she builds, presses, and disrupts each image through repeated layering and removal. The talk takes place Saturday, October 3, from 4–5 PM. The exhibition is on view September 17 through October 10. The event offers insight into how likeness, intimacy, and uncertainty operate in the paintings.
