An immersive installation makes its U.S. debut at Dee Sarno Theater at Saratoga Arts Center this September, from Capital Region native and Bangkok-based artist Sarah Pedinotti (Lip Talk). Youngworld: The Mantis Shrimp Matrix runs September 12–24, with an opening reception on September 12 from 6–8 PM. It combines sound, sculpture, and performance, all built from recycled and ocean-bound materials. The work uses the mantis shrimp's alien perception — 16 photoreceptors to our three — as a mirror for radical empathy and for our environmental impact. It's been shown in Bangkok and Tokyo; this is its first iteration in the U.S.
