The Wassaic Project’s Haunted Mill turns the former Maxon Mills grain building into a five-story nightmare of contemporary art—less haunted house than haunted imagination. Each floor unfolds as a surreal episode: Rhonda Weppler’s ghostly garden of paper blooms and animatronic moths; Ben Pinder’s stuffed-animal shrine hiding a sinister secret; Amarildo Moraes’s decaying digital archive of corrupted memories; Brian Walters’s salvaged metal masks; and Wendy Klemperer’s steel animals frozen mid-prowl. The journey twists onward through Hex Geissinger’s mythic demigod cat, Grace Lang’s haunted garden created with local students, Z Behl and Kim Moloney’s suspended Medusa, and LORE’s dark folk-electronic soundscape. On the top floor waits a corn maze writhing with crows by Lu Valena. Unease, wonder, and invention nest side by side.
