"I never identified a beach towel as an aesthetic object of value or a visual point of departure until quite recently when I made a copy of a particular towel as a painting. It a raucous group of cartoon frogs jumping and laughing in a landscape peppered with cattails and lily pads. Since then, that faded off-brand beach towel has revealed itself as a transitional object at the exact nexus of my personal, symbolic, and imaginary universe."
