Founded in 1963, the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers are New York’s oldest resident Native dance company. Formed by first-generation Native Americans from tribes including Mohawk, Hopi, Winnebago, and San Blas, the group preserves and shares tribal songs and dances. They’ve performed across the U.S. and internationally, raising funds for scholarships and promoting cultural understanding through dance, lectures, and workshops. Members come from diverse professions, united in preserving Native traditions. Performances are free and open to the public, with a suggested $20 donation. Registration is encouraged but not required.
