The Women of the Calabash perform a variety of music from Africa, the Caribbean, and Black America, crossing boundaries of style and instrumentation, combining traditional instruments with contemporary influences. They combine traditional instruments, vocals and traditional music forms with contemporary influences to perform a variety of music from Africa, the Caribbean and Black America. This ensemble crosses boundaries of style and instrumentation to give unity and context to African American music. Members include Joan Ashley, Caren Calder-Adams, Susan Rapalee, and Carole Caru Thompson.
