The Quiet Girl

Set in 1981 in rural Ireland, this stunning debut from director Colm Bairéad tells the story of a neglected girl sent away from her dysfunctional family to live with older Gaelic-speaking relatives she's never met. Slowly, in the care of this gentle couple, Cáit blossoms and discovers a new way of living. Newcomer Catherine Clinch, who was 12 when the film was shot, is luminous in the titular role. A NYT Critic's Pick and Oscar nominee for Best International Feature.
