On October 7, 1998, a 21-year old gay college student named Matthew Shepard was brutally beaten and left to die tied to a fence outside of Laramie, Wyoming. His murder garnered national and global media attention, changing the way we talk about bigotry and hate in America. The Laramie Project is a portrait of the community's response to Matthew's murder. Told in the style of documentary or ‘verbatim' theatre, it features a cast of 8 actors portraying 60+ characters.
