This semi-autobiographical dream-like fantasy from the mind of Academy Award-winner Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli is already on the Oscar shortlist. It is also the first non-English language animated film to win a Golden Globe. After Mahito loses his mother in a fire, he moves with his father to the countryside. He soon befriends a pesky heron who claims his mother is alive and leads him to an abandoned tower in the woods. There they discover a magical world that reveals his mother’s secret. The English dubbed version, screening on 1/20 at 4pm, features an all-star cast.
