Sonic Mud is a collective of musicians exploring the sonic potential of clay. Founded by artist Julia Elsas, the musicians play a range of her ceramic flutes, drums, natural trumpets, shakers, clayrimbas, rain machines, water whistles and more. The performances are unique and improvisational, bringing to life the richly resonant and earthy sounds of clay. Regular performers include percussionist Kenny Wollesen - a ubiquitous presence on the New York downtown music scene who's toured with everyone from Tom Waits and Lou Reed to John Zorn - and cornetist and composer Kirk Knuffke.
