Abhisek began sitar when he was seven. Under the strict tutelage of his guru, Pandit Shyamal Chattopadhyay. He has also been fortunate to study with Pandit Manilal Nag, who often played in Woodstock with Ray Spiegel. Abhisek gave his first public performance at the young age of eight and has been a regular artist of All India Radio since he was ten. Subrata is one of the leading tabla players in India today as an accompanist of choice of some of the most renowned classical exponents.
