Singin' in the Rain Launch Party Fundraiser

The Community Theater is rolling out the red carpet—literally—for its grand reopening on September 10, and what better way to christen a cinema than with Singin’ in the Rain? The 1952 musical is the undisputed pinnacle of Hollywood’s golden age: Gene Kelly stomping through puddles, Debbie Reynolds finding her spotlight, Donald O’Connor defying gravity in “Make ’Em Laugh.” It’s a film about transitions—silent to sound, anonymity to stardom—and a fitting metaphor for the rebirth of a hometown movie house.

But this isn’t just a screening, it’s a full-blown launch party fundraiser. MASHA and Music for Furniture perform live with visuals by Devin Tanchum, while Birdcage Babes set the mood with red-carpet music. Complimentary food from Café Joust and cocktails by Hemlock fuel the evening; downstairs, tarot reader Derek Smith of Constellation Catskill peers into the future. Photographer Bruce Byers captures the glam in a themed photo spot, while Vinyl Sessions’ Jacqueline Farrara spins cinematic DJ sets before and after the film. A silent auction and raffle sweeten the mix.

The dress code? Hollywood Glam and Iconic Cinema. The message? Movies are back in Pine Plains, and this opening night promises to be as exuberant as Kelly’s famous rain-soaked dance.
