Rachael Sage has built a career on fearless reinvention. The New York–based singer-songwriter, poet, visual artist, and founder of MPress Records has long blurred the borders between folk, pop, and chamber music, creating emotionally layered songs stitched with hope, resilience, and understated drama. Over the years she has toured with Ani DiFranco, Rufus Wainwright, Shawn Colvin, and Judy Collins—recording a widely praised duet of Neil Young’s “Helpless” with the latter—and earned six Independent Music Awards for her work.
Her new album Canopy, out October 24, unfolds like a journal of survival and renewal. Written in the shadow of personal challenges—including her recovery from cancer—these songs confront vulnerability head-on, while reaching for light with Sage’s trademark lyrical grace. The arrangements are warm with piano, strings, and folk textures, but it’s the emotional clarity of her voice that carries the record.
At Towne Crier, Sage will be joined by harmonica standout Trina Hamlin (Susan Werner), adding soulful, blues-inflected counterpoint to the evening.
