Modern dance can sometimes feel overly reverent—Pilobolust is not interested in reverence. On May 16, the legendary experimental dance troupe Pilobolus brings its adults-only cabaret to the Mahaiwe’s Indigo Room in Great Barrington for an evening of sensual choreography, physical comedy, shadow play, immersive staging, and gleeful weirdness. Since the 1970s, Pilobolus has built an international reputation on turning the human body into something elastic, uncanny, and occasionally absurd. Pilobolust pushes that sensibility into more intimate territory, mixing acrobatics, partial nudity, audience interaction, and nightclub energy into a performance that feels equal parts avant-garde dance piece and downtown fever dream.
