New York Opera Conservatory, FREE performances. The Conservatory gives professionally trained singers an opportunity to gain performance experience by learning and performing lead roles in popular operas. Each performance has a different cast and is a different experience. Operas are semi staged with costumes and props. JULY: Verdi's Il Trovatore, a tragedy about the consequences of revenge; contains the Anvil Chorus and the famous tenor aria Di quella pira. AUGUST: Donizetti's Don Pasquale, a comedy about a buffoon trying to pick the heir to his fortune; contains fabulous buffo-style singing, a favorite in comedies.
