There exists scattered throughout the valleys, forests and wooded uplands of the Northeast a large number of standing lithic structures that have mostly been ignored by conventional archaeologists and historians. However, these formations are increasingly emerging as part of a Native American tradition of ritual building practices that reflected a sophisticated world view representing and defining a social and cultural belief system. This presentation offers GIS, locational, and Geospatial data as evidence, revealing patterns based on the concentration and distribution of site locations on the landscape. A guided tour to a local site of significance will follow the lecture/presentation.
