Soon is Now, a climate arts organization in Beacon, NY presents a multimedia exhibition on climate, craft and food based in the Sundarbans, West Bengal, India, a place with rich biodiversity, severely impacted by climate change. Women made batik sarees with imagery of the fishes and greens under threat that are so integral to their survival. Also on display: handmade paper, watercolors, two new films, and handcrafted books of data, keepsakes, drawings, recipes and memories. By translating culinary, fishing and agricultural narratives into experimental textiles and books, this project imagines women-led models of resilience.
