Model 3 Generative Android, M3GAN for short, is a life-like robotic doll and marvel of artificial intelligence. Designed by toy-company scientist Gemma (Allison Williams, who also produces), she has the dead-eye stare of the undead yet is programmed to listen, watch, learn and, above all, protect the human child she bonds with. You can see where this horror-comedy is headed, though how it gets there is half the fun. More than just a cautionary tale about our dangerous reliance on devices, the film raises potent feminist and gender issues as it unsettles and entertains.
