Artemesia Gentileshi Suffered for Her Art
Winika’s current solo exhibit at Wallkill River School (WRS) “Misunderstood Women Project” seeks to cast a light on some unexplored ideas about women that deeply influence the foundational thought process and emotional undercurrent of society. By looking at individual women, the artist seeks to present a universal and intersectional portrait. Some of her subjects are historic and public, some are mythological and metaphorical. Lisa Winika is a self-taught “outsider” artist who expresses her vision through diverse media including drawing, painting, sculpting, photography, collage, and assemblage and in varied genres such as abstract, surreal, conceptual, and visionary.
