Joe Boyd's newest book (which is truly more like a Greek epic than a novel) entitled And the Roots of Rhythm Remain could probably stop a tank if you threw it hard enough. At just over 900 pages, Boyd's opus—subtitled "A Journey Through Global Music"—is a modern, anthropological encyclopedia, documenting and highlighting cultural sounds from all over the world. It's utterly fascinating throughout—the book's pages are alive with the riveting stories of exotic, colorful musics and their makers.
To discuss the volume and its subjects, the author—one of modernity's most legendary record producers, musical explorers, and respected raconteurs—will pay a rare visit to the Hudson Valley to host a multimedia presentation at the Local on March 18 at 7pm. Admission is free.
