International Women’s Day with Drumsong Orchestra and Documentary – “Taking Root”

Join us as we celebrate International Women’s Day with a special program. The evening begins with twenty-four women of the DRUMSONG ORCHESTRA, under the direction of Ubaka Hill, who will perform multi-cultural drum and percussion songs rooted in Women’s Music and Drumming Traditions. Following the performance we will show the documentary: Taking Root which tells the dramatic story of Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai whose simple act of planting trees grew into a nationwide movement to safeguard the environment, protect human rights, and defend democracy—a movement for which this charismatic woman became an iconic inspiration.
