In this 3-hour workshop students will learn to mix and maintain an indigo vat using only sugar and natural materials as well as the basics of shibori, a Japanese resist technique that uses folding, binding, and stitching to create beautiful patterns on cloth. We will discuss how to select and prepare fabric for dyeing with indigo, and students will leave with an array of fabric they have dyed in class plus the knowledge to make and maintain an indigo vat at home.
