Don Fraser, educator at Staatsburgh State Historic Site (Mills Mansion), will give a talk on Gilded Age Scandals. The lecture will tell the stories that made headlines 100 years ago: heiresses for sale, an outraged brother horsewhips his sister’s fiancé, the very public murder of a celebrity, and what the shocked American bride noticed about the village children near her aristocratic husband’s castle. Fraser will describe the scandals that filled the Society Pages…and recount one or two stories that were too racy for the newspapers.
