This December, the "Fully Committed" arrives at Phoenicia Playhouse — an uproarious one-man comedy that’s simultaneously a sprint, a showcase and a satire. The show follows Sam, a struggling actor working the reservation line at Manhattan’s hottest restaurant, as he wrestles with a nonstop flood of desperate callers — from entitled socialites to frantic foodies — all clamoring for a table.
Performed by Jake Shipley, who morphs into nearly 40 wildly different characters — each with distinct voices, rhythms and moods — the play is a masterclass in rapid-fire comic timing and vocal acrobatics.
Equal parts frantic and funny, "Fully Committed" delivers a behind-the-scenes look at the absurdities of fine dining, as well as a glimpse into the loneliness of an actor trying to catch his break.
