Fiber Class at Garrison Art Center
In this five-part workshop, participants learn to make hand-spun yarn from raw fleece to finished fiber. Open to beginners and fiber lovers alike—knitters, weavers, and beyond—this hands-on, meditative experience builds a deeper understanding of wool, natural fibers, and their origins. The workshop begins with preparing raw fleece from a nearby farm, followed by natural dyeing. Participants then card and comb fiber into roving and rolags before spinning yarn by hand using a drop spindle, with wheels available. The final session explores textile techniques including felting and weaving, culminating in a finished artwork made entirely by hand.
