Famoro Dioubate
A night of traditional West African music at the Stone Church with master balafon (an African xylophone) player Famoro Dioubate and his trio, featuring Manfa Diabate on n'goni, Baba Traore on talking drum and singer Sayon Camara. Famoro hails from Conakry, Guinea and comes from a long lineage of griots that traces their ancestry back to the 13th century. His soulful playing forms delightful, looping cross-rhythmic melodies that shift shapes as Famoro emphasizes different notes. Now a resident of New York City, Famoro fronts the electric dance band Kakande, but this will be a special acoustic performance.
