Every spring, the dirt-curious and trowel-wielding descend on SUNY Ulster for Garden Day, a horticultural hootenanny hosted by the Master Gardener Volunteers of Cornell Cooperative Extension. This year’s theme, “Garden with Confidence,” delivers 16 classes covering everything from mushroom cultivation to invasive plant smackdowns. Kicking things off: Michael Hagen, curator at the New York Botanical Garden, waxing poetic (and practical) on the trials of native plant stewardship.
