Art Studios: How artistic processes inform architectural design

Scott Benedict
Hudson Studio, designed by Grigori Fateyev and Art Forms Architecture
An exploration of the typology of art studios, presented as four architectural projects and a collection of design materials by Grigori Fateyev, featuring sketches, freehand drawings, renderings, 3d models, and photographs from early concept through construction. Custom art studios demand accommodations tailored to the artist’s practice (lighting considerations, storage, climate control, display areas, etc). Each project uniquely bridges the internal process of artistic creation to the site conditions around the studio, whether requiring connection or isolation. The designs incorporate the practical requirements with the sensory experience of a creative environment, allowing the artist to inhabit their process.
