Dr. April M. Beisaw will discuss the research process behind her new book Taking Our Water for the City: The Archaeology of the New York City Watershed Communities. Highlighted will be how Kate McGloughlin, and her artwork, was instrumental in developing a greater understanding of the equally beautiful and traumatic landscape. Ongoing research into the cemeteries around the Ashokan will also be discussed. Using non-invasive archaeological methods (no digging), April and her students are working to make sense of the burial relocations that resulted from reservoir construction.
