"Americans"

"Americans" is a traveling exhibition from the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street and the National Museum of the American Indian, explores how deeply intertwined Native Americans are in the culture of the United States. The images of Native Americans that we see daily offer a new way of understanding familiar events, including the story behind Thanksgiving, the legacy of Pocahontas, the Trail of Tears, and the Battle of Little Bighorn. Together, these stories offer a nuanced and provocative way to understand American history and the American present. Like the ubiquitous images of Native Americans, they give us the power to see into the country’s deepest foundations and remind us that Native Americans are an integral part of American history, culture, and identity.
